Mournes Trassey Track, Down

Badger Rating 4.0/5
A great launch point for a day in the Mournes, and very popular with the hiking fraternity, Trassey Track is a great climb and descent on a broad rough path - an exhilarating descent. The track itself leads up to Hare's Gap, and is also easy to link through to Tollymore.

Getting There

Park at Trassey Car Park, OSNI Map 29 Grid Reference 311313.

Trail Description

The track itself leads up to Hare's Gap, but is also easy to link through to Tollymore from the car park, along the path on the top side of the car park heading through the trees.

Make an epic of it by linking with more of the Mournes.

The Turkey Trot

A popular fell run each year of 5.5miles and 1500ft of climbing on Boxing Day, and a rewarding experience for those who don't mind lugging their bike a wee bit!

Starts at the beginning of the Trassey Track. Up the Trassey Track, then forks right at a ford to the col between Slieve Bearnagh and Meelmore. Contours across to the col between Meelbeg & Meelmore then descends NW down the Happy Valley to the Ulster Way. Then returns via the Ulster way to the Trassey Track, and to the finish.

  • good trail, some excellent high speed technical stuff coming down from the mine on bernagh.is a slug up to it but so intense coming back down. all natural, just watch out for the dog in the farm beside the bottom of the trassey track, is a bit mental!!!
