Lead Mines, Dublin & Wicklow

Badger Rating 3.5/5
Overall you have two forests to explore, the second forest has a downhill course and some great XC forest singletrack. Lots of great trail building and maintenance work by Epic MTB and other local clubs. Get out and explore it!!

Getting There

South of Dublin city.  Leave the Dublin M50 at Exit 15 (signposted for Cornelscourt and Kilternan) and follow the signs for Kilternan.  The trail is just off the R117 between Kilternan and Enniskerry.  At the T-junction in Kilternan at Palmers Golden Ball Pub turn left and continue straight ahead for approx 2 kms.  The Ski Club entrance is situated on the right.  Heading south past the Kilternan ski slope you'll come to an old petrol garage, just after that on the left is the beginning of the trail.

Trail Description

It starts with a muddy climb through the forest and eventually brings you to the smelting tower where you'll find a nice fast section of single track with good descents and uphill switchbacks. This finishes in a steep climb to the next bit of single track.

Overall you have two forests to explore, the second forest has a downhill course and some great XC forest singletrack.  Get out and explore it!!

  • The lead mines is a fun trail, its a bit short but if you do a few laps you will get a good work out.
Go to Garmin Connect and search "MTB" location "Shankill" and download a spin I do from Bradys Pub car park and back, it about 8 miles
