From Galway, take the N59 road north-west towards Clifden for 25kms to reach Oughterard. Go straight through the town and continue on the N59 for a further 7kms, where you will reach the entrance to the car-park and trailhead on the right hand side. The entrance is directly opposite the lay-by at Lough Bofin.
During a lap of the 16km trail you will face several long climbs which will be more than compensated for by some fantastic singletrack descents. Much of the trail is over high ground, remote and exposed in places so be prepared for West of Ireland weather. If you’re lucky with the weather some of the views across Connemara are simply outstanding.
The circular loop is fully waymarked and contains over 13km of singletrack some of which is technical, steep and rocky in places with exposed rock slabs, boulders, mud, roots, loose gravel and sections of north-shore.
If you’re in the West of Ireland, this trail must not be missed.
